'Joy in Pottery' is the journey and story of Tricia Nicholson and her love of clay and pottery.
Tricia has been working with clay for over 30 years. The pieces shown on this website are a fraction of around 600 pieces, created by Tricia, which have all been made at her local college adult education centre under the tutelage of Russell Coates and with her dear friend pottery enthusiast Mary Nielsen. Together they have spent all these years experimenting and capturing the beauty that is in nature all around.
What began as a simple project to catalogue the collection of pieces, turned into realising the volume and the celebration and enjoyment of sharing them all with the world. There was never any intention in creating such an extensive collection - it was rather the joy in pottery that has naturally led to what is today a substantial body of work.
Collecting them all together and finding places where they felt at home was a fantastic way of bringing them to life. Photographing in the gardens and by the sea and around the farm where Tricia and her husband Michael have developed and lived for many years. A place that was built in the knowing that it was to be shared with others.
